    2) I didn't want to take Gen Ed History, and besides Biology history is my favorite subject.
    3) The effects nationalism had on the cultural developmental of Americans and Americas' involvement in imperialism.
    4) Andrew Jackson as he was the most bodacious of all the presidents, or Thomas Jefferson, as he was one of the most progressive thinkers of all time. (I know he owned slaves etc. but his thoughts on personal liberties and freedoms were groundbreaking.)

    3. Oh hi Nick! I agree with you about American imperialism - a lot of people don't realize that we've still got some possessions of our own, like Puerto Rico, and I think it'd be cool to learn about how America got control of those territories.

  2. My name is Alexis Morse. I decided to take AP U.S. History this year because I wanted a more challenging class than the general education U.S. History course; I also hope to earn college credit with the AP test. I am most interested in learning about the United States' part in World War II and the Cold War because I was most interested in World War II and the Cold War in World History Honors last year and we skipped many things concerning America while studying those topics. I'd also really like to learn the more modern history of America, during the forties until now, because we barely scratched the surface of that time period in World History. If I could meet any historical figure in U.S. History, it would be J. Edgar Hoover because it would be interesting to discuss the forming of the FBI and the motivations behind some of the anti-radical movements, lies, and illegal activities associated with his time as head of the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

    1. I don't think It was just world history that has glanced over WWII and the Cold War, I fell that ever history class I've taken seems to end on an over view of WWII and just skips every thing past that.

    2. Hi Alexis! I would also like to learn more about the modern history of America because I find it more interesting then what happened farther in the past. I really hope we have the class together next year!

    3. I agree with Sean, I feel like there is a big gap in my knowledge between WWII to now. I hope that the depth of APUSH will allow us not only to examine the basics of modern history, but the intricate details that clear some of the misconceptions from the 50's to now. I think it's interesting that you want to learn more about the FBI. I feel like besides the basic details of the organization, it's history is clouded with conspiracies.

  3. My name is Sahil Dalal. The reason that I decided to take AP US History this year is because I wanted to take a more challenging course than Gen Ed history. The two topics that I am most interested in learning about are the Civil War and World War 2. I would like to learn about the lead up to the Civil War and how each side responded and go more in depth within the battles that took place. I would like to learn more about Americas involvement in World War 2 and the battles on the Pacific Front rather than just what was going on in Europe. If I could meet one historical figure in U.S. history it would be Abraham Lincoln because it was his poise and belief that won the the Civil War and the reason that we are one country and not two separate ones.

    1. Hey Sahil, it's Kristi. I'd like to learn more about the Civil War and WW2 also. We didn't go in depth with the two topics in WHAP and I agree we spent a lot of time on Europe. Since we both took WHAP last year, we know that class was a challenge. What do you want to be different in APUSH compared to WHAP?

  4. My name is Kate McCulley, I decided to take APUSH because I wanted to be challenged and not breeze through GenEd. history. I am really interested in learning more about 18th Century America and the Revolutionary war because it was so important in the history of the US. I am also interested in the Space Race and its effect in American culture. If I could meet any historical figure it would be Eleanor Roosevelt because she was such a role model for women taking on many tasks and trying to make a difference in her world.

  5. My name is Madison Mundell.
I chose to take APUSH because it seemed to be a better choice for me than Gen Ed U.S. History.
I am most interested in learning about American life during the 1920's. It seems really interesting and it wasn't a topic discussed at all in World History. I am also excited to learn about America's role and perspective in World War II. Though we went over World War II in World History, we did not go in depth to the United States' role in the war and it seems very intriguing to me.
If I could meet and historical figure in U.S. History it would be Benjamin Franklin, because he was like a jack-of-all-trades kind of man and he was also a very significant Founding Father. I think it would be life-changing to talk to him about all of his groundbreaking inventions and his role in the U.S. government as well.

    1. Hey Madi, its Micah, I would aslo like to learn about the 1920's because I couldn't name a single event that occured in that timeframe. Also because its not a common thing to learn about in history, normally its the world wars and the civil war.

    2. Hey Madison! I'd really enjoy going in depth about the U.S. Depression and how it affected the lives of millions. Also, the WW2 topic is very interesting to me too and I would also love to learn much more about it.

  6. My name is Chris Balzer. I decided to take APUSH because I would like to further develop my knowledge of our great country. The two topics that I am most interested in learning about this year would be World War I and how it affected American life, and also the Cold War because the spread of communism and the many "races" between the Soviets and US interest me. If I could meet one historical figure it would be Albert Einstein because his involvement in the Manhattan Project and his role in propelling quantum mechanics and macro physics to a level, uncomprehendable to previous generations, really appeals to me and I want to talk to him about it.

    1. Hey Chris, I agree with you 100 percent on wanting to further my knowledge of the great nation we live in. I am also interested in the background detail of the Cold War and the Manhattan Project. You seem like a very interesting person with great ideas and incredible potential!

    2. Heya Chris! I really like that you're interested in what America has contributed to the sciences! People don't realize how important it is (or else NASA wouldn't be underfunded) and it's great to see more kids interested in such a fascinating field.

  7. My name is Heather Peterson. I wanted to take AP U.S. History this year because the Gen. Ed. class may be too easy, and it wouldn't be challenging me enough. It is also a bonus that I will have the chance to earn college credit through the AP exam at the end of the year. One of the topics I am most excited to learn about is the Civil War and all of its causes and effects. I am interested in this topic because I find the history and battles of it fascinating. The second topic I am looking forward to learning more about is the Great Depression because it's interesting how the economy suddenly crashed and how people got by in those hard times. A person from U.S. history I would like to meet would be Franklin Roosevelt because his reforms pulled America out of its Depression and stabilized the economy for future generations.

What year do you find most interesting or would like to learn about the most next year?

  8. Hi, my name is Sierra Ruiz. I picked APUSH because I wanted to challenge myself as a student and have the opportunity to gain college credit for United States History. A topic that I would like to learn more about this year is the Roaring 20's leading into the Great Depression era. The time period has always fascinated me, and I would like to understand in more depth how these events affected the course of American history. I am also interested in learning about the late 1900's and how pop culture changed the modern world. I would like to learn more about the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's because they were times of cultural evolution and moral diversity which set the stage for society in 2012 and beyond. If I could meet a U.S. historical figure it would be Martin Luther King, Jr. because of his work for the Civil Rights Movement and his dream of equality for the future.

    1. Hello Sierra, it's Kristen Wunder. If i could meet a historical figure I would also choose Martin Luther King Jr because he was a motivational figure with a dream not only for himself, but for the future generations as well. If Martin Luther King Jr wasn't involved in the dream of equality between races, do you feel we would still be how we are today? What year do you think slavery would have ended without the help of Martin Luther King Jr?

    2. Hey Sierra, it's Chrissy! I am looking forward to earning college credit for this class as well. The Roaring 20's was one of the topics of interest that I listed too because I would love to learn about how that era and the Great Depression changed everything that followed, not only in America but around the world. That's interesting that you want to learn more about the modern era of America. I never really thought about the importance of pop culture on the evolution of society but now that you mention it, I think it would be fascinating to learn about how more recent events affected our current society.

  9. My name's Lauren Phanawong and I decided to take APUSH to hopefully get a clearer understanding of America's beginnings, achievements, and facets of functioning. In addition, GenEd U.S. History sounded pretty scary. I am most interested in learning about the American side of World War Two, as well as life during the Great Depression. We were not informed of much concerning America during the great wars, so I would like to learn about our history throughout the time period. Although devestating, the stock market crash and its aftermath have always fascinated me, and how America managed to regain prosperity. If I had the opportunity to meet any historical person, it would be Theodore Roosevelt. He accomplished numerous feats throughout his life, including conservation movements, which I find vital to saving our homelands and inhabitants for the future.

These two events in particular have a certain appeal to me that make me want to learn more about them and it will also expand my understanding on the events that led up to it. I decided to take AP U.S. History because I felt it would be more challenging than regular U.S. History and it would be a good opportunity to gain college credit. I'm most interested to learn about the end of slavery, the American Civil War and the many different struggles our country had to get equal rights much later after the Civil War. I feel as if these were some of our country's biggest struggles, and I would like to learn more about the people who were involved in solving them. If I had the chance to meet any American historical figure, I would want it to be Abraham Lincoln because he had a big part in the Civil War, along with the end of slavery, and he seemed like a very inspirational man.

  20. Hi my name is Breydan Dotson. I decided to tale AP U.S. History because advanced placement classes look good on college applications and also give a weighted grade. I also think that American history is a very important subject for every American to learn, and an AP course of this subject would give the most in depth coverage of our country's history. Two topics that I am interested in learning about this year are the American Civil War and American involvement in modern issues. I want to cover the Civil War because that was my favorite topic when I learned about it in 7th grade and I want to cover modern issues because I feel that I don't know a lot about what's happening in our country today. I wish to learn more on the entire situation very in depth this time around. Another topic I am interested in learning is of all of the various underground railroads used to help bring and free slaves from the south to the north. I'm taking APUSH because I love the history of our great home and I feel that in order to understand our society and to create a great future for ourselves and others we must have a firm understanding of how America came to be, which can be provided by taking this class. I also love to be challenged and focused while being able to receive college credit, which can be given by being in a class such as this. The two topics I am most excited to learn about is the American Revolution and WWII. The founding of America began during the Revolution, which brought about the first nation to be based on the beliefs on liberty, equality, and a successful representative government. My grandfather served under General Patton in WWII and this war further established the U.S as a world superpower, and I find the intricacies and advancements of this war very interesting. If I could meet anyone in history, I would talk to one of the Founding Fathers because they played a monumental role in the creation of America. Their intelligence, beliefs, and influence inspire me and it would be great to be able to talk to someone of their stature.

I wanted to take APUSH mostly because of my experience in a regular, general education classes, they're not only easier, they present barely any mental challenge at all, but they also get extremely boring and force you to sit there wishing you had taken the honors version of the class. However, the second reason is simply the chance for college credit from this class. Im really excited to learn about the Civil War and the Cuban Missle Crisis because, in my personal opinion, these are the two most interesting parts of American history. 53. My name is Kyle Burgard, my blogger tag is Alkpwnura55. That's sixth grade for you. The reason I aspire to complete APUSH this year is two-fold. For one, it appeals to collegiate interviewers as a higher standard of academic rigor. Secondly, one might actually learn something of a deeper value in said college level courses. While we may not cover such a topic in depth, I especially hope to learn about the effects of music development on American culture. I find this particularly fascinating because as the "melting pot" of the world, America has been the forerunner in many musical revolutions. Also a point of interest to me is the development of ethics throughout history. Our assigned reading in AP Language and Composition goes hand in hand with this topic. As our sense of self grew as a nation, it appears as though many wrongs being committed finally found a face, and even though they took many years to halt, it is interesting to read about thousands of people being called out on accusations of indecency and inhumanity, just to pull the excuse of obliviousness and victim-hood. My historical figure of choice actually fits within both criterion. Wynton Marsalis, world renowned jazz trumpet master and the leader of a musical revolution himself. As an aspiring African American in the early twenties, he was also subjected to many of these aforementioned pressures and ethical dilemmas. Maybe I would just bask in his holiness, I'm not really sure, but he is an utter inspiration.

I am interested to learn about the Civil War next year because it is an important historical event and its outcome could have changed many things we see today. I would also like to learn about the assassination of John F. Kennedy because he was a great president and could have done great things for the country. If I could meet one historical figure I would choose to meet Martin Luther King Jr. because he stood up for a good cause and must have had a lot of courage to stand up for what he believed in at the time he did.

  69. My Name Is Ryan Gorman And I decided to take APUSH because I did not want to take any regular classes and I enjoy learning about history. I feel that we as a people must learn mistakes made in history so that we do not repeat them and may grow from them and better ourselves. My favorite thing to learn about is war history so naturally this wil be one of the things i look forward to studying this upcoming year. As for the other topic, i would like to learn more about the founding fathers and all of the other amazing people that have helped advance this country and shaped it into what it is today. If I could meat any historical figure in US history, i would like to meet Ronald Reagan because he was, in my opinion, the best president and I believe he would have some ideas on how to set our country straight.

I really enjoyed the Cold War and WWII but during World HIstory H we didn't spend as much time as i would have hoped for. So for Junior Year I hope we study those two wars in depth. I would like to learn more about Franklin D. Roosevelt and ask him how and why he wanted to be president during the Great Depression, i would also like to know his views of Herbert Hoover that was president before him.

As an outsider, taking this course is an excellent way to understand more about my second home. During the World War II, America and the Philippines fought side by side to fight against the invading Japanese army. I already know the Philippine's side of the story so now I want to learn about America's part. The Great Depression is also an interesting topic to learn about. If I was given the power to travel back in time to meet a US historical figure, I would meet Harriet Tubman. Her strong resolve and determination to save people was inspiring.

What was your favorite, or most memorable fact about the Phillippines side during World War II?

Since you have lived in America for awhile now, are the two cultures similiar in any way? I will definitely ask you about some of the Philippine history some time!

I decided to take APUSH this year because I have always loved challenging myself academically and history is one of the subjects that has never failed to captivate me. I have also heard many great things about the class from my siblings and other students that have taken APUSH. I am most interested in learning about the Roarin’ 20’s and the Great Depression because the contrast between these two time periods fascinates me. I would love to learn more about what happened during both of these extreme times in our nation’s history and how each one affected the future of America. If I could meet any historical figure it would be Franklin Delano Roosevelt because I think his contributions to rebuilding the United States after the Depression were massive. I would find it very interesting to ask him about things like the New Deal, the Agriculture Adjustment Administration, and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

My name is Justin Chen and I decided to take APUSH this year because my goal is to succeed in life and I believe that by taking challenging classes in high school it would better prepare me for college and to reach my goal in the future. This year, I look forward to learning about the great depression and comparing it to the economical situation we are in today as well as the american revolution because I skimmed over it in 8th grade but never really went into great detail on the subject and i feel that by being an american, I should know more about the event that started our nation. The historical figure that I would like to meet most would probably be John Locke because his philosophies about natural rights directed many people including the American revolutionaries towards ideas of freedom and also because he is among one of the most influential men to have ever walked the earth.

The two topics I would like to learn about this year are the Civil War and significant soldiers and generals in each specific battle of that war. I want to learn about these topics because a couple years ago I read the “Killer Angels” and the way a single battle in the Civil War was described made me intrigued about the entire war. If I could meet any historical figure in U.S. History, it would be General Robert E. Lee. I would want to meet this man because he seemed to be a very complex and intelligent person. I'm also interested in learing the American point of veiw during WWI and WWII because our class did not have time to go into detail about that.
